Chain linking for remembering list of random words.

Today I want to share the Chain Linking method taught by my coach Jim Kwik. Jim uses this method to link words so that you can remember them better. There are several principles beyond this method which I will share below.

  1. Primacy

This means our brains tend to remember the first word that was said to us or even the first word we read.

  2. Recency

This means that our brain tends to remember the last thing that was said to us or that we have read.

  3. Chunking or Organizing

Our brain tends to group words that start with the same letter. We might manage to organize words that are all about political leaders, words that have to do with swimming, etc.

  4. Uniqueness

We tend to group unique, different, or outstanding words, for example, “Sir Lance a lot.” This word is unique since it has to do with a knight or it’s from the past.

  5. Value/Memory/Emotion

Words with emotion behind them, e.g., diamond, might have a significant meaning. You might have given your wife a diamond ring on your wedding anniversary. Etc.

  6. Familiarity

When someone has the same name as one of your family members.

  7. Visualization

    When you can visualize something.

  8. Association

When you associate one word with another, for example, Battery and balloon go together.

TIP: T = Turn, I = Into, P = Picture.

Which principles do you use to remember list of words? What do you do to remember random list of words? Do you think this will work to improve your memory, I certainly do?
