I am going to share how blogging can add value to your life and which type of skills you can develop through blogging.
Have you ever thought that if I can get my ideas or my work out in the world, I could help so many more people and become more valuable or influential, eventually getting closer to your goals in life? You are committed to your goals, upbeat, and full of energy, and you have knowledge that you want to share, but you can’t seem to get your work or ideas out into the world.
I used to rely on emails as my primary means of communication. I used to send emails where a phone call or an in-person meeting would have solved the issue much more effectively. For example, when my Boss wanted some urgent feedback or when my wife wanted to speak to me in person. These were all opportunities where I could have connected more deeply and built trust, but unfortunately, I did not see it this way at the time. So many lost opportunities to connect with others and build better or new relationships. This situation resulted in me feeling dispirited, uninspired, and unempathetic.
If you, like me, love connecting with others and are seeking more profound and meaningful connections or building better relationships with others, why not start to blog. Now you might ask, why blog? Indeed there is a better way to make more meaningful connections or build solid relationships? I believe by nature, we as humans are communal; we deteriorate mentally, emotionally, and physically over time if our social needs are not met. It is essential for our self-care. Blogging is a way to connect with anyone worldwide, not just the people in your immediate environment, i.e., work, friends, and family. There are so many more people like yourself in the world. People that have the same interest, people that are on the same learning journey as you are.
Maybe you love writing and would like to write a book one day, but you are unsure where to start. You might want to write and share your thoughts and ideas on the internet, but you feel that you might overshare private things that you don’t want to share. A book that helped me with getting over my fears and anxiety of sharing is a book by famous author Austin Kleon called “show your work,” in specific chapter 3, where he talks about flow and stock.
If you don’t start putting your work out on the internet, i.e., start blogging, you might struggle to make an impact and help others. So many authors have created books from their blogs. You might feel that you don’t need the internet, but here I am not referring to the internet as the end goal. Here I am referring to the end goal of writing a book. The Internet is just a means to the end. The real value is in the books that you write, the information you share in the book, and the deep work that goes into it. Everything starts with a simple blog that could take you at least 30 minutes to create.
If you want to start blogging and do it safely, please read the three books by Austin Kleon. If you love the creative process of writing and sharing with others, these three books would be an investment that will pay dividends for the rest of your life.
This journey has forced me to learn how to design a website amongst the many other newfound skills. You won’t only know how to be a better writer, but you will also learn a new skill you can monetize.
With this newfound skill, I am now able to increase my learning. I am currently using my blogging website to teach others what I have learned, or I can summarize anything that I know. This not only helps others but also helps me remember the stuff I understand.
Covid has caused the world to adapt to better work-life integration. In the future, written communication will be a highly sought-after skill. Remote working on projects worldwide will soon become ordinary, with companies employing people from overseas. If you are a good writer, you will be high in demand when these remote work opportunities become the new norm.
A lot of people already have sustainable businesses just by blogging. Blogging for a living is possible and can be done sustainably.
Thank you for reading up until this point. I would love to hear what you think about this blog, and will you consider creating your website and start blogging.
